In Corporate VP Narration, the Outcome Is Decided by Design Before Recording

The most common failure in corporate VP narration is not poor vocal skill. It is lack of clarity at the briefing stage.
Requests like “Make it bright” or “We want something trustworthy” sound useful, but they are too abstract. The client, producer, and narrator often imagine different end results. That is why a first take can be technically good yet still feel “somehow off,” leading to endless revisions.

What matters is this: design the script and the reading together.
In a corporate VP, it is not enough to know what the sentence means. You also need to decide what should be highlighted, where reassurance should be felt, and which numbers must sound precise and credible.

In this article, I will share a ready-to-use corporate VP narration briefing template and a professional framework for readings that truly communicate.

The 5 Areas That Most Often Cause Misalignment

At minimum, align these five items before recording:

1. Purpose of the video
Recruitment, company profile, IR, trade show, sales support, anniversary film. Each requires a different vocal temperature.

2. Target audience
Students, shareholders, existing clients, or business partners. The listener changes the pressure and distance of the read.

3. Role of the narration
Is it explaining information, supporting visuals, or carrying the brand tone? If this is vague, the performance will scatter.

4. Direction of the read
Examples: sincere, refined, warm, innovative, calm, energetic.
But adjectives alone are weak. Convert them into usable direction, such as “closer to a news program,” “more commercial,” or “slightly conversational.”

5. Criteria for revisions
Not “make it better,” but “soften the sentence endings,” “highlight proper nouns,” or “make the whole tone 20% calmer.”

A Briefing Template You Can Use Immediately

Copy and use the following:

Corporate VP Narration Brief Template

  • Project name:
  • Video purpose:
  • Target audience:
  • Video length:
  • Desired narration length:
  • Script lock date:
  • Delivery deadline:
  • Role of narration:

e.g. information-led / brand-led / visual-support type

  • Desired voice impression:

e.g. sincere, clean, calm, slightly warm

  • Directions to avoid:

e.g. too salesy / too excited / too heavy

  • Reading reference:

e.g. refined for company overview, closer and more human for employee segments

  • Words to emphasize:
  • Words that must be read precisely:

e.g. company name, product name, figures, English terms, proper nouns

  • Accent specification needed:
  • File format:
  • Need for split files:
  • Retake policy:

e.g. up to two performance adjustments after script lock

The value of this template is not that it is long.
Its value is that it translates project needs into usable voice-direction language.

Three Design Principles for a Read That Truly Lands

Now for the deeper part—the kind of specialized topic that keeps readers engaged to the end. In corporate VP work, these three points matter most.

1. Let the grammatical subject lead

In Japanese-style corporate scripts, the subject often disappears in the ear.
Take a line like: “We solve social issues through technology and dialogue.”
The core is “We.” If that is not established clearly, the whole message loses shape.

2. Read numbers and proper nouns for meaning, not just accuracy

“Founded 72 years ago,” “No.1 market share,” “ABC Solutions”—these are not just factual items.
Numbers signal achievement. Proper nouns signal credibility.
A slightly controlled tempo and a tiny bit of space before and after them can dramatically raise their weight.

3. Sentence endings define the brand’s personality

In corporate VP narration, the strongest impression often comes not from the beginning of the sentence, but from the ending.
Push the ending too hard and it sounds like an ad. Let it drop too much and it sounds careless or weak.
If the project needs sincerity, do not “hit” the ending—settle it. A calm landing creates trust.

Simple Marking That Makes Scripts Easier to Perform

The best scripts include light performance marks so neither the narrator nor the director has to guess.

  • `/` short pause
  • `//` larger pause
  • `↑` slight lift or emphasis
  • `→` keep it flat
  • `※` accent check needed

Example:
“We↑ / deliver new value // to society through the power of manufacturing.”

Even this level of marking helps align performance significantly.
A script is not only a text document. It is also a performance blueprint.

How to Write a Request That Reduces Revisions

Here is one practical example.

Weak request:
“Please make it calm.”

Better request:
“We want a refined tone that conveys the company’s credibility. Please keep the energy restrained, but not dark; the read should still leave a sense of forward-looking optimism. In particular, prioritize clarity on the company name, business description, and all numerical information.”

That difference is huge.
The first shares only a feeling.
The second shares decision criteria.

Corporate VP narration is not completed in the booth. In many cases, it is largely determined at the moment of briefing.
Use a strong template to align conditions, and use reading design to improve communicative precision.
Do those two things well, and your narration will move beyond merely “good” to something far more valuable: it will truly communicate.
